Australian People for Health, Education and Development Abroad
APHEDA was created in 1984 as the overseas aid agency of the Australian Council of Trade Unions. A commitment to justice and human rights is the cornerstone of the work of Union Aid Abroad - APHEDA, the ACTU's overseas aid organisation. APHEDA's work aims to build self-reliance through support to educational and training projects for workers and their organisations. Support for these projects comes from many individual union members throughout Australia [including the AEU], the Australian Council of Trade Unions [ACTU], unions and workplaces, as well as from the Australian government aid agency, AusAID.
